Valverde Wins Vuelta Andalucía!

Movistar Team’s Alejandro Valverde finished stage 4 in second place to secure the overall tour lead. Alejandro won the 2nd stage by attacking the last km to finish 10 seconds ahead of  Menchov, Taaramae and Frank Schleck. Alejandro’s victory gave him the overall and points jersey with 2 more stages remaining. Movistar team controlled the peloton and Valverde timed his attack to perfection.

Tour Méditerranéen 2012

Movistar will attempt their 4th win in 6 years as they send younger riders Ángel Madrazo  David López, Andrey Amador,  Ignatas KonovalovasEnrique Sanz, Fran Ventoso, Jesús Herrada and Nairo Quintana to the 39th Tour Méditerranéen that starts Thursday February 9. The stages are set for sprinters and chilly windy winter weather is forecast for the 4 stage event held in Southern France.

Santos Tour Down Under 2012

Movistar tour downunder 2012Jan 17- Jan 22, 6 stages
Movistar Cycling team abandoned the  over-all team victory from 2011  on stage 5 when Alejandro Valverde with the aid of his relentless teammates took the Queen stage 5 and drew within the same time of the race leader.
The tour was an overall success for the telephone squad and  the team had a rider within the same time of the stage winner on all the races that week. Alejandro’s stage win was saluted through out the cycling as a gutsy performance and Alberto Contador was happy he was back in the curciut.

Movistar finishes Mallorca Challenge

Movistar and the rest of the peloton finished the 2012 Mallorca Challenge a day earlier because the last race, Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana was cancelled due to snow and no alternative routes around the area. This year the team did not claim any stage victories but finished 2nd when Rui Costa soled behind in the Trofeo Deià’, a race that he won in back in 2010.
Movistar riders rode well in Mallorca and controlled some of the climbs in the Balearic Island thus achieving confidence in the upcoming year’s grand tours.

Movistar finishes Tour San Luis 2012

Movistar’s Fransisco Ventosa  finished in 26th place in the final stage that was another scorcher in Argentina. Movistar finished second in the overall general team classification, and had strong finishes through out the tour.
