JJ LOBATO TAKES STAGE 2!

Lobato wins stage 2

Juan Jose Lobato out sprinted teammate Gorka Insausti and Daryl Impey to claim Movistar’s first stage win for 2105 in the second stage of the Santos Tour Down Under. Lobato, with help from Insausti and Rubin Fernandez was stronger to the finish and stole the stage win from Imey and several other riders just by finding a closet path towards the finish line. The Movistar team was in the thick of the stage while sending riders in the front during the stage. The racing tactics were perfect and we looked very comfortable riding with other top teams, usually we do not win or even finish top 10 in these events, but today was something special seeing 3 Movistar riders dance towards the finish line, and even more joyful for the victory!
Juanjo Lobato: “I’m super happy. I had a small incident in the finale with a flat tire during the last lap, and that’s why I didn’t came in the best position into the final slopes. Fortunately, the team has always been there supporting me, helping me out with that trouble, and I’m really excited to offer them a victory to pay back after their efforts. It’s not really like the rivals have ‘stopped’ in the final meters; the ramp was steep and difficult for all of us, the pace was incredible and I was timing my effort to launch the sprint. I didn’t care if my ‘distance’ would grant me a top-10 place or a victory: I just wanted to give everything from where I could push at full steam, and fortunately, I could take this win.”
This stage victory is Lobato’s professional 5th win, and second as a Movistar rider.

The 2015 Tour Down Under will not see Alejandro Valverde  and 2013 runner up Javier Moreno, but will include Juan José Lobato sprinter and climbers Eros Capecchi, José Herrada and Gorka Izagirre for the six-stage race. Movistar’s 2015 tour down under will be captained by Pablo Lastras with Rubén Fernández and Enrique Sanz as support riders.

Our past success has been noteworthy that due to the flat stages as we love those tough hills!

We do have a better chance than last year because the course features more elevation compared with previous years, with a tough uphill sprint in Campbelltown and a new finish at Mount Baker in addition to the traditional Willunga Hill stage, not Mt Ventou, but steeper than a kangaroo resting on the side of the road.

Since the race takes place 13 hours waaaay before my daily routine, I will sporadically post result, but will inform everyone on tidbits, opinions and anything useful to fulfill your Movistar cycling heart!
