VALVERDE finishes Second-Overall UCI

 Alejandro Valverde finished one second behind to move ahead of Alberto Contador in the UCI overall year points lead. Dan Martin timed his attack perfectly to finish ahead of last year’s Champion Rui Costa and winner Joaquim Rodriguez.  Alejandro’s second place finish secures his overall points after Contador loss too much time on the second climb.

MOVISTAR Seeks Beijing for Top 2014 UCI Cycling Awards

Movistar will send Alejandro Valverde, (second to Contador is individual overall by 4 points) Beñat Intxausti (Overall tour defender), Jose Herrada, Pablo Lastras Dayer Quintana, Enrique Sanz, Jasha Sutterlin and Giovanni Visconti to secure the WorldTour overall team competition.  “We can win the WorldTour in both individual and team classifications, so we need a strong team in Beijing,” said General Manager Eusebio Unzue. “It is a great opportunity and we will go for it. Additionally, Alejandro deserves to win the WorldTour so we will support him until the end.”

Movistar won the Individual and team overall with Beñat Intxausti, Rui Costa and Enrique Sanz controlling the peloton throught the suburbs of the Chinese capitol city. This year should have the same results with so much at stake for the cycling team.  The tour of Beijing starts October 10th and finishes on the 14th.

MOVISTAR Selects Lombardi 2014:

 Alejandro Valverde will be joined by other Movistar riders to win, and possible overtake the 4 points he is behind Alberto Contador in the last official UCI race on European soil. Intxausti, Eros Capecchi, Jesús Herrada, Ion Izagirre, Dayer Quintana, Jasha Sütterlin and Giovanni Visconti will race 256 km. for in nice under  20º cloudy weather with 2 km/h winds.
