Philipe Gilbert won the San Sebastian classic by pulling away from a 6 rider breakaway with 4 km to th finish line. Movistar did have JJ Rolas and Erviti  in the attacking group but were dropped with the 10 Km mark heading into San Sebastian arteries. Most Movistar riders finished 2:20 behind Gilbert.

One of the most popular classics in Spain will take place in the Northeastern region in the Biscayne coastal city. The San Sebastian Classic has been held every summer since 1991 and our team has won event the 3 times.

The 227km course has spectacular views of the Biscane Bay that features winding, twisted roads and the Alto de Jaizibel summit which is around the 200 km mark. Usually great climbers and riders who are very aggressive seem to win this event. Movistar will start 7 riders whom had the skill and experience to hold onto the “basque beret” including Intxausti and Kiryienka who started le Tour d’ France, but were forced to withdraw after injury. Other riders racing in this years San Sebastian classic are LL Sanchez, Oscar Freire, The Shlecks, Damiano Cunego, Philipe Gilbert, Ivan Basso, S Sanchez, Carlos Sastre and Joaquin Rodriguez and other riders who recently raced in the Tour D’ France.Most of these cyclists will retire for the remainder of the year.
