Movistar team cycling has added three-time italian Road champion 28 year old Giovonni Visconti to their line up for 2012, 2013. This is the teams first major signing of a major cyclist from Farnese Vini team. Visconti was infamous last year for the speculation that his bicycle was motorized during the Italian national championships by Ivano Fanini last July.
Visconti seems upbeat and positive during his interview with the press today. “I’ve bought a Spanish phrase book because I want to learn the language. But I also want to understand the Spanish culture, their mentality and how they live. I’m going to go there for a month this winter with my family. I’m not worried about fitting in because they have a Latin culture and have a lot in common with Sicily, where I come from.”
“I’ve already talked to team manager Eusebio Unzue a lot. He wants to know me as a person as well as a rider. I think we’re going to get on really well.” stated Giovonni.
Visconti will ride in the classics and start his career in the stage race next season. Although he has never rode in a grand tour, Visconti has finished well in the races he has entered this season, and has never finished under 5th place in his entire career.
