costa win in Montreal

Movistar’s Rui Costa kept his breakaway and out-sprinted Fedrigo to take the victory in the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal 2011 held in Quebec, Canada, Costa broke away from the peloton by attacking the last lap climb on Mont Royal and fought off attacks from Samuel Sanchez, Ryder Hesjedal and Rigoberto Uran to notch Movistar’s 21st stage victory in a tragic filled cycling season.
“This is a very important victory because it is a WorldTour win,” Costa said. “The Tour win was also a special victory, obviously, because the Tour is the Tour and that is the biggest race that you can win at. But, I felt really strong today and I think I had a really strong team.”
The victory in Montréal was the 3rd for Rui Costa who won in France and Spain. Movistar’s Lius Pasamontes finished 4 seconds behind his teammate while Rojas, Lopez, Plaza and Irate and finished the race within 30 seconds while David Arroyo did not cross the finish line. For Movistar to finish out this season filled with tragic events with a victory, is a mush needed comfort for the telephone squad first season racing in the grand tour.
